Rancho Cucamonga wildlife control tip of the month: Can wild animals in the attic give your pet fleas?

Fleas are tiny Rancho Cucamonga animal control pests, barely visible to our eyes, and often overlooked until our poor pets come scratching. Then we see fleas everywhere. They are usually no more than the size of a pinhead with vicious spiked mouths designed to burrow into the fur and the skin to get to the blood supply. Although they usually aren't deadly, they are extremely irritating to deal with, and hard to get rid of. Fleas lay between 10 and 20 eggs at a time on average and these eggs hatch within a few days, causing a simple flea problem to turn into an epidemic.

Fleas can jump up to a foot in the air which makes Rancho Cucamonga pest control transmission extremely easy. If your pet is exposed to the outdoors for prolonged periods of time, or to other animals that you think may have fleas, a flea treatment is a good idea. Oftentimes we don't expect to see the little black creatures crawling over our fur babies, but it is a very real possibility.

It is very common for wild animals such as Rancho Cucamonga wildlife removal raccoons and squirrels to make themselves at home in our attics. However, these animals aren't just the cute little woodland creatures that we assume they are. Many harbor dangerous diseases and yes, fleas, that can be transmitted to our own loving animals. We don't always know when our animals have been in contact with the wild, but there are usually signs that we must pay attention to.

If your pet begins scratching more than usual, or if you notice Rancho Cucamonga animal trapping flea dirt (tiny black flea droppings) on the animal's skin or coat, this is probably a good indication that you should get your pet checked out. Many animals can also get scabs or “hot spots” which can be indicative of fleas. If you suspect your pet may have contracted fleas, you should comb through the fur with a fine tooth comb in order to confirm or deny the predicament. If you should find that your pet has fleas, contact your veterinarian to discuss the proper brand of flea treatment. You will also need to clean any areas that the pet has been in contact with such as rugs or bedding, and treat any other pets you may have as well. If the flea problem persists, you might think about removing any necessary belongings and vacating the house to have it flea bombed.

If you cannot think of any possible way that you're pet could have contracted Rancho Cucamonga exterminator fleas, and you live in a rural area, think about checking your attic for any wild animals or signs that any have been there. Do not attempt to remove the animals yourself, but contact the proper authority in order to avoid starting the process all over again. There is usually a simple solution that satisfies the needs of all parties involved.
